June Brown: Respect Your Elders

The Daily Telegraph –

BBC ONE, A terrific documentary in which EastEnders actress June Brown reflects on what it means to be old in Britain. At 85, Brown is fortunate to enjoy financial security and close family to live with, but she’s still not eager to face some of the hard questions that hang over her future care needs. Embarking on a quest to find out more about the lives of other elderly people, she encounters repeated examples of the decline in family care for elderly relatives, and the “complete lack of respect” shown towards many older people by society and state. But it’s not all bad news; she finds positive stories to learn from, too.
